Barton Foundation's 17th annual Golf Tournament and fundraiser held on Friday, July 22 at Genoa Lakes made nearly $20,000 for the Foundation’s Community Health Endowment. The field of 115 golfers enjoyed a perfect day on the course with little wind.

Briggs Matsko, an avid golfer since age 11, from Lincoln Financial Advisors landed the first ace in tournament history, winning $10,000.

“I did not make my first hole-in-one until I was 54, which was five years ago,” Matsko said.  “After playing golf for over 40 years I honestly thought I might not ever make an ace, much less have the pleasure of enjoying a second one! I have to say I am still on Cloud 9.”

Matsko plans to donate $5,000 to the Barton Foundation’s Community Health Endowment and he says the balance will be split between taxes and a savings account for his nine-year-old-son.

“Golf has provided me with hours of enjoyment, wonderful experiences and given me the pleasure of camaraderie with people from all walks of life on courses throughout the nation and the around the world,” he said. “Anytime you can mix the pleasure of a friendly, competitive round of golf with raising money for the community good – it has to be a home run….or make that a hole in one!”

Congratulations also goes out to Erik Watada, Matt Wiggins, Todd Poth and Appollo Poth – the winning team. With a score of 56 the winning team is invited back next year to defend their title. Morgan Murphy, South Lake Tahoe High School golf star, won the women's longest drive for the third year in a row. Nick Colavecchio had the longest drive for the men. The longest drive winners each received a twosome at Lake Tahoe Golf Course. The closest to the pin winners, Linda Quadri and Colton Marchesseault, received a twosome at Genoa Lakes.

Barton Foundation has raised more than $550,000 over the last 17 years from the annual golf tournament. Endowment investment earnings will continue to allow The Foundation to invest in the future expansion and renovation of Barton’s Community Clinic and other major services.
