In 2011, Barton Memorial Hospital’s Skilled Nursing Facility staff and medical personnel made a goal for 2012 to earn a five-star-rating, in September, the staff’s hard work paid-off and the Skilled Nursing Facility was awarded five-stars from Medicare.
“We have a long standing reputation for giving high quality care,” Melinda Brogna, Director of Barton Memorial’s Skilled Nursing Facility said. “We are honored to be able to provide long-term care to local families and maintain our tight-knit community.”
According Medicare.gov, the five-star quality ratings are: “based on the Omnibus Reconciliation Act of 1987 (OBRA '87), a nursing home reform law, and more recent quality improvement campaigns, such as the Advancing Excellence in America's Nursing Homes, a coalition of consumers, health care providers, and nursing home professionals.” Barton Memorial was given the five-star-rating based on the results of health inspections, staffing and quality measures throughout the last year. All ratings are combined to calculate the overall rating and this rating is only awarded to the top 10% of nursing homes.
The 48-bed long-term-care-facility has been in operation since 1997. It provides care for aging adults providing private & semi-private rooms, 24-hour licensed staff, social services, group and individual activities, entertainment and outings, volunteer programs, religious services and programs that maintain and/or improve independence.
“Not only is this rating a great honor, but there are few non-profit facilities in California and Nevada that can boast this rating,” Brogna said with excitement.
