More than 20 children attended the Barton Foundation annual children’s bereavement camp, August 27-29. Children left with a positive outlook for the future after receiving grief education and support, while working through bereavement issues.
Camp Sunrise is a three-day camp designed for children ages 7-14 who have experienced the death of a family member. The Barton Foundation believes every child deserves the opportunity to grieve in a safe, supportive and understanding environment.
The camp is funded through the generosity sponsors – Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra, Tahoe Douglas Rotary and Build-A-Bear Workshop and the Barton Foundation. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the event though. This year more than 30 community members donated their time, support and hearts to make Camp a possibility.
Next year’s camp is already set for June 17-19, 2011 at Galilee Camp & Conference Center in Glenbrook, Nevada. Residents of the South Lake Tahoe, Minden, Gardnerville and Carson Valley/City areas may apply. If you know a child who would benefit from camp or would like to volunteer your time, please call the Barton Foundation at (530) 543-5909.
