The Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care today launched a national advertising campaign that powerfully communicates to members of Congress and policymakers the potential harm posed by additional hospital cuts. The ads are running on national cable (CNN, Fox and MSNBC), and in television and local cable markets in 10 states.
The ads portray a busy emergency department and the human dramas that play out there. At the conclusion, the narrator invites viewers to call their members of Congress to protest additional cuts in hospital reimbursement. While the ads are silent on the source of the potential cuts, you, as a hospital leader, understand that additional cuts of close to $4 billion are possible through a coding offset in the proposed IPPS rule. More than 240 members of the U.S. House recently sent a letter to CMS opposing these additional cuts to hospital. A similar letter to CMS is currently circulating in the Senate.
The Coalition is a unique organization of hospitals and national, state, regional and metropolitan associations united with the business community behind one goal: to create television, radio and print advertising that seeks to protect and preserve the financial viability of America’s hospitals. The Coalition is a tax-exempt organization with an independent and diverse board representing all sectors of membership.
