The following COCA update is intended for distribution to hospitals and other patient care facilities.
If you have any questions on these or other clinical issues, please write to us at coca@cdc.gov.
Hydrox Laboratories, Elgin, IL, has issued a voluntary recall of one lot of alcohol-free mouthwash: AG-210, lot # 26228, nationally distributed to healthcare facilities by Cardinal Health, McGaw Park, IL, because of suspected contamination with Burkholderia cepacia complex.
Testing of additional lots of mouthwash is on-going.
If facilities are aware of cases of Burkholderia cepacia complex respiratory infection or colonization that may be associated with the use of alcohol-free mouthwash products, please email us at coca@cdc.gov.
Because alcohol-free mouthwash is a non-sterile product, its use should be avoided in intubated patients and other patients at high risk for infection or aspiration.
