GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Staffed by Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians and specially trained Registered Nurses, all of whom are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and many whom hold specialty certifications in Trauma and Emergency Nursing.

  • Our ancillary staff consists of experienced Emergency Technicians whom are certified as EMT’s and skilled registration personnel.

  • As a Base Hospital we coordinate efforts with community resources such as the Fire Department, Emergency Preparedness, and air transport for critically ill or injured patients.

  • Barton Memorial Hospital has highly-qualified specialty doctors on staff, including Orthopedics, OB/GYN, General Surgery, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Radiologists, Podiatry, Dentistry, and Hospitalists, which are Internal Medicine Physicians with advanced training in caring for critical patients.

Barton’s ER medical team provides treatment and care for:

  • Acute chest pain

  • Acute respiratory distress

  • Acute abdominal pain

  • Minor trauma

  • Stabilization and transport of major trauma

  • Post-op infections/complications

  • Renal Calculi (kidney stones)

  • Pneumonia

  • Diabetic complications

  • High blood pressure crisis

  • Eye, ear, nose and throat problems

  • Febrile illness

  • Dehydration

  • Urological problems

  • Laceration repair and wound care

  • Broken bones/torn ligaments

  • Gynecological problems

  • Psychological problems

  • Animal bites

  • Victims of suspected/alleged elder, child, domestic and sexual assault

  • Accidental poison and/or overdose

This list is not all-inclusive. The above is just a sample of some of the services provided.

Patients requiring more advanced medical services can be assured of the highest quality of critical care transport available in the Tahoe area. This is provided for critically ill patients by helicopter transport via Cal Star, which is based at the South Lake Tahoe Airport or Care Flight, which is based in Gardnerville. Stable patients requiring services not offered at Barton can also be transported via ground ambulance with certified Paramedics.
