GENERAL INFORMATION

Getting a mammography regularly is important to maintain good health.  This non-invasive test can help your Physician evaluate changes in your breasts and can help them detect changes that your Physician cannot feel.

  • A mammography is recommended annually for women age 50 and over.

  • The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms for women age 40-50

  • The National Cancer Institute recommends that this age group get a mammogram every 1-2 years

Your Physician may recommend getting a mammogram before the age of 40 or more regularly if you have a family history of breast cancer or other types of cancer, or show physical symptoms of breast cancer such as lumps, breast pain, skin dimpling and nipple discharge.

We are proud to offer every woman a softer mammogram.

Barton Medical Imaging is certified as a Softer Mammogram Provider®, a distinction awarded only to an elite group of healthcare facilities that offer MammoPad as standard of care. We provide every woman with MammoPad®, a foam pad that serves as a cushion between you and the mammography machine. This comfort technology improves your mammogram experience by decreasing the pain associated with the exam.

The MammoPad breast cushion was designed for women by a female breast surgeon.  It is FDA-cleared, does not impair image quality, and makes it easier for you to relax during your exam.  That helps our highly skilled mammography technologists achieve the best possible mammogram.

Digital Mammography:

Barton Health has installed new digital mammography systems at both Barton Medical Imaging locations that can help shorten exam times and provide physicians with vital diagnostic information.

Digital mammography is the latest advancement in breast imaging. It uses computers and specially designed digital detectors to produce an image that can be displayed on a high-resolution computer monitor, and transmitted and stored just like computer files.

Digital mammography provides high quality breast images and special tools that allow the radiologist to see more detail than ever before. This advanced imaging technology helps clinicians detect breast cancer at the earliest stage possible.

In addition to offering superior mammography technology, both our Barton Medical Imaging locations offer a warmer, softer mammogram by using the MammoPad breast cushion for every patient. MammoPad has been clinically demonstrated to reduce discomfort, associated with mammograms, for most women. This breast cushion is “invisible” to X-rays and does not interfere with the image quality of the mammogram.

Finding cancer

Unlike film, digital mammograms allow physicians to manipulate image characteristics such as magnification, orientation, brightness and contrast, which improve the ability to view specific areas of the breast. With the digital Mammomat Novation system, results are produced more quickly, helping to decrease both anxiety and discomfort for women while also reducing radiation exposure.

Digital mammography provides physicians with the advantage of being able to manipulate and share breast images for consultation, helping to facilitate diagnoses.
