The Barton Health Rehabilitation Services offers the only comprehensive Certified Hand Rehabilitation Program in South Lake Tahoe, CA.

Barton Health is fortunate to have our own Certified Hand Therapists. The Hand program is designed to
achieve optimum hand function following surgical repair or injury.

Injuries Treated:

  • Cumulative trauma disorders: carpal tunnel, DeQuervains, and tendonitis

  • Fractures of the hand and upper extremity

  • Tendon repairs, transfers, and grafts

  • Crush and degloving injuries

  • Nerve injuries, repairs, and entrapments

  • PNS and CNS disorders – affecting upper extremity function

  • Upper extremity amputations

  • Arthritis

  • Burns

  • Compartment Syndromes

  • RSD

  • Lymphedema

  • Musculoskeletal disorders

  • Pediatric upper extremity dysfunction

Treatment Techniques:

  • Edema control

  • Pain management

  • Muscle and sensory re-education

  • Desensitization

  • Therapeutic exercises

  • Patient education (adaptive equipment, injury education)

  • Modalities – ultrasound, E-stim, iontophoresis, paraffin, whirlpool

  • Splinting (dynamic and static)

  • Functional Capacity Evaluations of the hand and upper extremity

  • Scar management

  • Worksite analysis and workstation re-design

  • Home exercise program

Treatment Goals:

  • Reduce pain, edema, and scarring

  • Improve strength, motion, and function

  • Independent functioning in activities of daily living and safe return to work


The Hand Therapy Program currently accepts a variety of insurance, worker’s compensation contracts, direct payment, Medicare and Medi-Cal.
