Barton Health Community Benefit Report, 2014

A Letter For Our Community

It has been a productive and noteworthy year at Barton Health. The healthcare environment is evolving at a fast and sometimes unpredictable speed. Our physicians and staff will continue to provide high quality care, expand access to medical and wellness services and add new ideas to enhance the patient experience to support the health of our community.

Let's reflect on some innovations and achievements made to care for our patients in 2014:
  • Barton Memorial Hospital is now the only designated Trauma Center in the Tahoe Basin and Carson Valley. Our Level III Trauma Center certification means we are fully equipped to expeditiously treat patients with skill and compassion under the most difficult medical circumstances.
  • Barton Health was recognized by the Joint Commission in the areas of congestive heart failure, pneumonia and venous thromboembolism prevention.
  • To keep services local, we expanded access to care by bringing Dr. Bradley Anderson to provide urology services for men, women, and children.
  • We continue to add new wellness services and programs including Barton's BWell Community Wellness Program and our new Cancer Wellness Program.
  • Barton's Skilled Nursing Facility received the highest rating of five stars from U.S. News & World Report on the publication's new best nursing homes list for 2014.
  • Medical care teams on the hospital's second floor have added programs, including Daily Patient Rounding and Bedside Shift Reports, to provide additional interaction with patients beyond doctor and patient communication.
  • Our pharmacy successfully adopted a state-of-the-art procedure, Bar Code Medication Administration, to safely and efficiently dispense medication.
We want our patients to feel cared for every step of the way. From that first phone call to every follow-up interaction, our employees and medical providers are working together to ensure each patient has an optimal and compassionate experience.

At Barton Health, I feel very fortunate that we have a top-notch team dedicated to making a difference and improving the lives of our community members and our visitors.
