Environmental Cancer Causing Agents - Wellness Lecture Series

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Learn more about environmental cancer causing agents from Dr. Roderick Turner, Barton Pathology, this month. Cancer is caused by changes in a cell's DNA. Some of these changes may be genetic or inherited from our parents, while others may be caused by outside exposures, which are often referred to as environmental factors. Environmental factors can include a wide range of exposures, such as:
Lifestyle factors (nutrition, tobacco use, physical activity, etc.)
Naturally occurring exposures (ultraviolet light, radon gas, infectious agents, etc.)
Medical treatments (radiation and medicines including chemotherapy, hormone drugs, drugs that suppress the immune system, etc.)
     Workplace exposures
     Household exposures

During this Free Wellness Lecture With Dr. Turner you will:
 - Discuss different types of carcinogens and specific cancer risks
 - Gain knowledge of hazardous chemicals and how we can avoid them
 - Learn about radiation/radon risks, toxic metals, fibers and dusts
 - What we can do to minimize our risks related to carcinogens in our environment

The community is invited to join Barton Health each month for a medical professional-led forum as a part of our free Wellness Lecture Series. Each month features a different wellness topic, which will be discussed by a related health professional within the Barton Health network.

Future Wellness Lecture Series:
February 4, 2016: New Treatment Options for Cardiovascular Disease
March 9, 2016: Managing Diabetes
April 6, 2016: Integrative, Complementary Medicine
