Dr. Willen is the founder of Tahoe Women’s Care and as been working at Tahoe Women’s Care and has been on staff at Barton Memorial Hospital since 1984 after moving from Ohio where he was teaching and working in a large group practice. He was an early pioneer in minimally invasive surgery beginning in 1989 and performed the first laparoscopic hysterectomy in Northern California in 1992. Laparoscopic subtotal hysterectomy was first presented at a national meeting by Dr Willen in 1996. Since that time 95% of his surgical procedures have been done using minimally invasive techniques. He is currently practicing Gynecology only with special interest in minimally invasive techniques for all gyecologic problems. He is now focusing on office techniques for menstrual problems and new procedure for pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence.
He is a husband, father and grandfather. Dr. Willen enjoys boating, catering to his Labrador Retriever, Murphy, and he is an avid sports enthusiast. Still a large portion of his time is spent working on the development of new minimally invasive instruments and techniques as well as teaching others in providing these services.
Dr. Willen specializes in minimally invasive gynecology and is specially-trained to perform da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery.
