Compliance & Ethical Care
A strong compliance program is essential in healthcare to protect patient safety and uphold trust. Barton Health fosters a culture of compliance by empowering staff to identify and address non-compliance, improve policies, and maintain open communication. The program also provides clear channels for reporting concerns, helping to maintain high-quality patient care.
Our compliance team ensures Barton meets healthcare regulations by providing monitoring, training, and guidance on policies, vendor relations, and conflicts of interest.
It also oversees mandatory annual training and the Exclusion Monitoring Program which follows the OIG guidance which requires by law to exclude from participation in all Federal health care programs individuals and entities convicted of the following types of criminal offenses: Medicare or Medicaid fraud, as well as any other offenses related to the delivery of items or services under Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, or other State health care programs; patient abuse or neglect; felony convictions for other health care-related fraud, theft, or other financial misconduct; and felony convictions relating to unlawful manufacture, distribution, prescription, or dispensing of controlled substances.
At Barton, everyone shares responsibility for ensuring organizational compliance. Our compliance team works to safeguard public trust by ensuring employees and care teams understand relevant compliance standards, have the tools needed to meet those standards, and feel supported in addressing any concerns.
To support these efforts, we rely on seven core elements of an effective compliance program:
- Clear written policies, procedures, and standards of conduct
- A designated compliance officer and compliance committee
- Ongoing training and education
- Strong communication channels
- Internal monitoring and auditing
- Well-publicized disciplinary guidelines
- Prompt response to offenses and corrective action
