Concierge Medicine: Your Questions Answered

Author: Dr. Matthew Wonnacott

Life gets busy. Finding time for your health can be hard, especially when you’re juggling work, family, or caring for others. Whether you live in Tahoe year-round or spend a season here, you deserve health care that fits your life.

Last fall, Matthew Wonnacott, MD, moved to a concierge medicine practice. Here are his answers to common questions about this approach to care.

Q. What is concierge medicine?

A. Concierge medicine is a membership-based healthcare model where you secure your doctor’s services for a set period. Your physician becomes not just your primary care provider, but your primary care coordinator for all your medical needs.

Q. Why should I consider it?

A. Concierge medicine offers convenient access to your physician. You get longer appointments with fast turnaround times. You also have direct communication with your doctor and care team.

Q. What conditions does a concierge physician treat?

A. Concierge medicine is personalized family medicine. Whether you have a chronic condition, a serious injury, or simply a busy schedule, you benefit from individualized, consistent care.

Q. How quickly can I get an appointment?

A. Same-day or next-day appointments are usually available. Barton Concierge Medicine is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can also call after hours for medical advice from an on-call nurse or medical professional.

Q. What happens when you’re out of the office?

A. Barton Concierge has a team ready to support you. In addition to after-hours support, a full team of physicians, nurses, and medical specialists from Barton Health is available. We’re committed to treating illness and injury while also optimizing your health and quality of life.

Q. Why do I get more time with my doctor?

A. A typical family medicine physician has 2,500 patients. Concierge medicine limits patient numbers, giving your doctor more time for thorough visits and personalized treatment plans.
