Remembering Dr. Richard Steadman

We’re saddened to learn about the passing of Dr. J. Richard Steadman, a renowned orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine pioneer.

In 1970 Dr. Steadman joined Tahoe Fracture Clinic, the orthopedic practice of Dr. Paul Fry II ("Papa Fry"), practicing in Lake Tahoe until 1990 when he moved his non-profit organization, the Steadman Philippon Research Institute, to Colorado.

Dr. Steadman’s focus on keeping active patients active left a positive impact on top athletes for decades. "Barton Memorial Hospital provided great care for famous athletes and local athletes as well. The doctors at Tahoe Fracture were always available to provide the highest level of care for patients," shared Dr. Steadman for the commemorative book, Barton Health: The First 50 Years.

We are so grateful for the partnership between Dr. Fry and Dr. Steadman and their revolutionary impact on orthopedics in our region.
