Hospice Care
Barton Hospice provides comfort and relieves symptoms of patients with a terminal illness who have a prognosis of six months or less. Our hospice team works together to help you and your family understand your illness and make informed decisions regarding end of life issues. Respecting your decisions and needs is important to us and we embrace individual faiths and cultural beliefs.
"Early election of hospice care has been shown to extend patients’ life expectancy and significantly improve quality of life." - National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization Report
Hospice care is provided in the privacy of your home, a nursing facility or group home and focuses on the comfort of the patient rather than curative treatments. The hospice team works with each person and their family to determine the most beneficial treatment and how to provide care. This includes the physical, social, emotional, and spiritual care of patients and their loved ones.
End-of-life discussions and decisions are never easy. When that time comes, we are here to serve as a resource for you.
Available through a Physician’s referral, covered under Medicare, Medi-Cal, private pay, and private insurance in the South Lake Tahoe Area, Stateline, Glenbrook and Markleeville, Barton Hospice is state-licensed, federally-certified, and Joint Commission accredited.

Policy regarding The End of Life Option Act at Barton Health
Barton Health provides end-of-life care which takes care of the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of the patient and their family and supports patient self-determination through the use of advance directives, hospice, palliative and other supportive care, and providing effective pain and symptom management.
Barton Health, its employees, and contracted physicians do not provide aid-in-dying services, as permitted through California's End of Life Option Act. If you are considering medical aid in dying Barton Health will refer patients and families to providers who are participants and will continue to provide care to patients who qualify for and request services, regardless of their interest in seeking medical aid in dying.
