Dr. Ryan is past president of the Hawaii Orthopedic Association. He currently serves as the Chair of the Foot & Ankle Program Committee for the American Association of Orthopedic surgeons and serves on the Public Education Committee for the American Orthopedic Foot & Ankle Society.

Dr. Ryan remains active in academics as an Associate Clinical Professor of Surgery with the University of Nevada Reno and has over forty publications in peer reviewed literature. Prior to coming to the Lake Tahoe area from Hawaii, Dr. Ryan served 30 years in the United States Army where he deployed to Afghanistan five times and trained Army Orthopedic Surgeons as the Program Director at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI.

He is an avid runner, cyclist, and triathlete and serves as a coach for the track and field team at George Whittell High School.
