Barton Foundation Board Spotlight: Kimberly Evans, MD

Dr. Kimberly Evans traded in sandy beaches for powder days when she moved to South Lake Tahoe nearly 8 years ago. Since then, she’s had an active role in the community, making an impact through her work at Barton Health and the Barton Foundation.

Dr. Evans is on the Barton Foundation Board of Trustees and is a general surgeon for Barton Health, dedicating her past 7 years to patients at the hospital. She is an expert at performing many operations, ranging from gallbladder to colon surgeries.

After receiving her medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, Dr. Evans performed her residency at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. She continues to offer her expertise to students as an associate professor at UC Davis.

A Heart for Philanthropy
Dr. Evans developed a passion for giving back to others at a young age. A value that was passed down to her, she has volunteered for causes important to her for as long as she can remember. Wanting to bring that heart for philanthropy to Lake Tahoe, she found she aligned with the Barton Foundation’s mission, which inspired her involvement.

“The Foundation allows Barton Health to acquire state-of-the-art technology and equipment that we might not otherwise be able to get,” she said. “It allows us to stay on the cutting-edge side of health care and to provide high-quality care for our patients. As a surgeon, I have insight as to where some of our areas of needs are, and it’s great to use my voice to advocate for fundraising and ensure the money
we raise is put to good use.”

As a provider, Dr. Evans interacts with patients from different backgrounds on a daily basis. She quickly noticed the financial disparities in the community, and through the work of the Foundation, she can treat patients from all walks of life without second thought.

“The Foundation raises money to advance health care in our community, and as a doctor, that is extremely rewarding,” she said.

Get to Know Dr. Evans
A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Dr. Evans met her husband, Dustin, while attending Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate education. Dustin was born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, which is why the couple chose to move back to the Sierra Nevada to raise their family. They have two children, Elle and Waylon.

When she isn’t at the hospital, you can find Dr. Evans taking advantage of Tahoe’s mountain and lake access, opting to be outdoors when she can. She enjoys skiing, wake surfing, fishing and paddle boarding.

Through the teamwork and dedication of the Foundation, Dr. Evans is proud to have a role on the Barton Foundation’s Board of Trustees and as a rural health care provider at Barton Health.

“It’s vital for us to have access to health care in our community because we are so geographically isolated,” she concluded. “The Foundation is committed to ensuring we can provide that as much and fairly as possible.”
