Barton Performance: Restore Well

Welcome to heart health month! A huge piece of having a healthy heart is managing stress. Take a minute to notice how your stress levels are.

Begin With Self Awareness

Why is this important?

By increasing our self-awareness we can reap the following benefits:

  • Increased patience in difficult situations
  • More present moment focus
  • Enjoyment of the process
  • Better relationships

What to do?

Begin a stress ritual:

  1. Notice when you start feeling stressed. For example: negative thoughts, heart racing, tightness in your breath.
  2. Simply take 1 deep breath focusing on the inhale (rise of belly or chest) and the exhale (drop of belly or chest)
  3. Then say a word or phrase that allows you to let go of the stress and come back to the present moment. For example say “release”
  4. While you say this word perform a physical action that also allows you to let go of that stress. For example rub your index finger and thumb together.

Practice this ritual when you are not stressed so you can implement it when things get hectic. Make it a goal to practice at the same time of day for seven days and see how it can change your life!
