Barton Health Community Benefit Report

Barton Health, Barton Memorial Hospital and our affiliated physician offices are continuously striving to provide high quality medical services to our patients in the Lake Tahoe region. In addition to the quality care we provide, Barton Health embarks on numerous community wellness programs every year, in addition to providing funding to local organizations and programs through Barton Foundation health grants and Barton Auxiliary scholarships.

Our Community Benefit Report details the programs and support services Barton funds to build a healthy community in South Lake Tahoe. Focused on access to care, the report has topics such as patient-centered care, technology, supporting our youth, future goals and community wellness.

To Our Community

2018 was a momentous year for Barton Health and our commitment to health and wellness – it marked the opening of the Robert Maloff Center on the Barton Health campus. This state-of-the-art facility houses the Barton Center for Orthopedics & Wellness, and brings orthopedics, rehabilitation, sports performance and our expanded wellness programs under one roof. Focusing not just on symptoms and treatments, but on preventative lifestyle medicine, residents and visitors have a home to navigate their journey of improved health.

Our expanded wellness services focus on four pillars: Nutrition, Fitness, Stress Management and Sense of Purpose in Life, and are designed to combine conventional medicine with evidence-based alternative medicine concepts, resulting in a complete approach to your health. We’re committed to traveling alongside your unique health journey to help keep you whole, or in case of an illness or injury, to help get you back to doing what you love.

Barton Health was founded by a group of dedicated volunteers over 55 years ago to ensure our community had access to high-quality care close to home in the mountains. This culture of giving back continues today, from the numerous volunteers who support departments organization-wide to our Barton Foundation who, through community partnership and philanthropy, gives back to the hospital and supports our region’s health year-round with local grants, technology purchases for the hospital and much more.

In 2018, we were awarded several new quality accolades, a testament to the care providers and staff we have at Barton Health. In the fall of 2018, we were one of only 855 hospitals across the U.S. to receive an “A” Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. Additionally, The Joint Commission awarded us their Gold Seal of Approval® for Core Certification in total hip and knee joint replacement surgery.

I am so grateful to work alongside such a skilled and passionate group of people, both within the Barton Health organization and with our Lake Tahoe community partners. Our roots are in the community, and as we move forward into the future, we are just as strongly committed to improving the health and wellness of the region as when we began.

Sincerely,
Clint Purvance, MD
President and Chief Executive Officer
