Barton Health Earns Performance Excellence Awards in Patient Care

(South Lake Tahoe, CA) – Barton Memorial Hospital received five Best Performance awards for nursing care in 2017. The Collaborative Alliance for Nursing Outcomes (CALNOC) recognized Barton’s excellence in providing safe, high quality health care with zero instances of hospital-acquired pressure injuries and infections patients can develop while hospitalized.

CALNOC establishes benchmarks for hospitals based on data analysis of patient safety standards. These objective measurements include indicators of nursing care and hospital performance. The five Best Performance awards Barton Memorial Hospital received from CALNOC add to the industry recognition and accolades the health system earned in the last year.

“These awards add to Barton’s reputation for providing excellent care for patients,” said Dawn Evans, MSN, MBA, RN, PHN, CPPS, Director of Patient Safety at Barton Health. “This industry recognition is accredited to a robust infection control program and nursing staff consistently following evidence-based practices.”

Nurses providing care at Barton consistently monitor patients to address and diminish secondary infections associated with their hospital stay. Barton received five CALNOC Best Performance awards in preventing hospital-acquired conditions in the following areas: pressure ulcers, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line-associated blood stream infections, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections, and Clostridium difficile infections. Barton Memorial Hospital’s rates for hospital-acquired ulcers and infections trend far below the state average for California hospitals and are among the top 25 percent of CALNOC hospitals in the state.
