Barton Memorial Recognized as Top Performing Hospital
South Lake Tahoe, CA – Barton Memorial Hospital announced today it has been identified as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission. According to The Joint Commission report released on November 13, Barton Hospital is one of 1,224 hospitals that achieved the 2013 Top Performer distinction.
“We understand the importance of patient safety and high quality care for our patients,” explained Christine O’Farrell, Director of Quality at Barton Health. “Receiving Top Performer status highlights the commitment and teamwork our physicians and staff have dedicated to improve care processes and enhance the patient experience.”
Of the US hospitals that participated, less than 37% received this honor. The Joint Commission accredits and certifies health care organizations throughout the United States. Barton Hospital was recognized as a Top Performer in three key treatment areas: heart failure, pneumonia, and venous thromboembolism (VTE), a condition where the blood clot travels through the vein.
To be a 2013 Top Performer, a hospital must attain a performance score of 95% or above on all reported 2013 accountability measures. Accountability measures are from evidence-based care processes that increase the chance of positive patient outcomes for key treatment areas, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism and perinatal care, as well as for inpatient psychiatric services and immunizations.
“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Barton Hospital for their excellent performance on the use of evidence based interventions,” said Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and CEO of The Joint Commission.
