Dr. Terry Orr of Tahoe Center for Orthopedics Receives USSA Award

Park Lake City, UT – The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) recognized Dr. Terry Orr of South Lake Tahoe as the 2016 recipient of the John J. Clair Jr. Award.

The John J. Clair Jr. Award is given annually to a person who provides exceptional service to the U.S. Ski Team or U.S. Snowboarding. Past recipients include Dave McCoy, the founder of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, and Deedee Corradini, the first and only female mayor of Salt Lake City. This year, Dr. Orr received the award at the USSA Congress’s Chairman Awards Dinner on Friday, May 13 in Park City, Utah.

“For nearly 30 seasons, Dr. Terry Orr has volunteered his time to stand on the hill as a team physician and provide moral support for hundreds of U.S. Ski Team athletes,” said Tiger Shaw, President & CEO of USSA when recounting Terry’s nomination. “His service has spanned over 45 international events at his own expense, and he has played a key role in the success of some of the team’s greatest stars.”

Dr. Orr has volunteered for the USSA since 1988 and served as the Head Team Physician for USSA Men’s Alpine for 14 seasons. He helped create and develop the USSA Medical Pool and Medical Committee. He has also volunteered to provide medical coverage for numerous athletic events, including four Winter Olympics.

“I am truly surprised and honored to receive this recognition,” said Dr. Orr. “It has been a privilege to work with USSA athletes, coaches, and officials for the last 28 years and help some of our country’s greatest athletes excel.”

Dr. Orr is an orthopedic surgeon and Medical Director of Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation at Barton’s Tahoe Center for Orthopedics. He provides orthopedic care for USSA athletes as a well as other athletes and residents in the Lake Tahoe area.
